A lot of places would be better with some kind of public restroom, but it’s hard to integrate without sticking out like a sore thumb. One of these places is the Badlands National Park in South Dakota, which has nice and accessible walking trails but no rest stops along the way.
Visitors are even allowed to leave the trails and go hiking in the surrounding areas – even camping and multi-day journeys can be done. This way the Milky Way can be seen at night over the mountains.
The impromptu design now connects all these aspects and more into one concept: a rest stop including restrooms, a viewing platform for visitors, a holding station for valuables, a bike rack and outlets to charge cameras for the nightly astrophotography session.
